Accessibility video - The Crown and Castle
The accessibility video we have created above is to help make your stay as pleasant as possible and looks to provide you with the need-to-know information should you wish to visit us and view our facilities ahead of time.
Below we have created a text-based version which includes the same information included in the video above for reference and should you prefer to read this information instead.
Visiting The Crown and Castle
The Crown and Castle is a hotel with just as much history, as it has character and charm.
With this in mind, we have tried to offer accessible facilities where the building allows.
There is one small car park for the hotel, this is for guests that are staying to allow easy access to rooms.
For those dining we would advise using the nearby car park within the village square.
The car park is attached to the hotel and can be accessed by a small gravel drive to the left of the hotel.
There are no static blue bay spaces for guests. This is so we can reserve the most relevant car parking space dependent on the room that you are staying in.
If you are staying with us and would like to reserve a car parking space, please call the hotel to speak to our Reception Folk.
The most accessible entrance into the main hotel building is the door located at the front of the hotel.
This only requires crossing the lip of the door threshold to enter the hotel.
The back entrance of the hotel, which is closest to the car park has three steps and two manual doors.
There is a handrail either side to assist.
From either entrance, you can easily access the bar, lounge area, restaurant and our private function room, The Parlour.
Staying at The Crown and Castle
Our most accessible rooms are our terrace rooms.
Room 30 known as The Moat and Room 31 known as The Keep, are located just behind the main hotel building.
Both boast walk-in showers and ample space in the bedroom to manoeuvre.
The Moat has a large seating area in the garden, whereas The Keep also has a bath and views of Orford Castle from its private garden.
The rooms mentioned share a communal hallway, therefore, although we do not have any adjoining rooms, this is a good alternative option for those that wish to have rooms close together.
The rooms which are accessible from the hotel’s car park, have their own blocked paving path to the front entrance and there are spotlights along the path to aid with finding the rooms when it gets dark.
Both have no steps but a slight ramp to enter the shared corridor and then no additional steps or lips to the room.
Assistance dogs are welcome to stay with guests in these rooms.
If you do have any booking requirements, we would advise calling our reservations Folk and we can provide you with more details and the best options available.
When calling the hotel, press 1 for our Reservations Folk.
Even if you have stayed with us before, if you would like to request a certain room, we would advise booking with us direct either by calling or through our website, as room allocations cannot be guaranteed through third-party booking websites.
Dining or drinking in our restaurant or bar
Much of our seating in the restaurant is accessed without the need to use additional steps.
But there are some tables on an elevated level which require one step.
If you would prefer a table on the lower level, let our Reception or Restaurant Folk know and they will organise this for you.
Full table service is available in both the restaurant and the bar, and both have ample room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre.
Dining with your dog
We also have a doggy table available which can be reserved so you can dine with your four-legged friend by your side.
This table is very popular and we would recommend requesting this table upon booking as we cannot guarantee this table will be available on arrival.
Assistance and additional dining requests
Our Folk are on hand to provide advice and assist with requests for tables with the best lighting or tables with less noise.
As this is an open plan restaurant, our advice may change depending on the number of tables booked at that time.
To help us make your experience the best it can be, we would please ask for you to let us know of any requests like this upon booking or check in so we can ensure that we are able to do our upmost to assist.
Accessible toilet
Due to the age of the hotel, our accessible toilet is located within an outbuilding of the hotel.
From the entrance of the hotel, make your way towards the hotel car park and the toilet is located within the building on the left.
The toilet is equipped with handrails as well as a full-length mirror.
This can be used by any visitors to the hotel.
A key for this toilet can be requested at reception.
Private dining and events
Also, within the ground floor of the hotel, you will find our private dining room, The Parlour.
The Parlour sits up to ten people and has wonderful features including our multi-coloured chandelier and our large dining table.
Room to manoeuvre can be limited in this room, therefore, if you have any questions or would like to view the room ahead of making a booking, please get in touch and our Reception Folk can assist.
If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with one of our Folk on 01394 450205 or using the contact form below and they will be happy to help.
