Before I continue I hope you, your friends and family are all keeping safe and well during this extremely challenging time. If you or a loved one have been personally affected, our heartfelt thoughts go out to you from everyone at The Crown and Castle.

Please read on to find the official changes we have made in order to keep you safe and well during your time with us.

John and his fellow Hotel Folk are continuously working to retain the balance between The Crown and Castle experience you have learned to expect whilst giving you the confidence you need to plan your next visit. Let me talk take a few moments to explain some of the changes you can expect to see.

Some of you may have met our young, vibrant, and creative Head Chef Jake Lawrence. Jake and his fellow culinary Folk have been working through our menus to ensure you can enjoy them in our peaceful restaurant surroundings or in the comfort of your own room.

Unfortunately, we will not be offering lunch in the restaurant, however, someone will of course be on hand to offer you some light refreshment on your arrival to Orford. Given so many of our guests enjoy the amazing walks in the surrounding area, Jake has put together a ‘Taste of Orford’ picnic hamper for you to take with you on your adventure.

“Our picnic hamper is perfect for enjoying the lovely tranquillity of Orford and beyond. It includes treats from the wonderful Pump Street, goodies from Pinney's and some of our very own creations, making it a bundle of fun and surprises. Water is included, but a bottle of something stronger from our wine list is an option that we know you might be tempted by!" Priced at £45 per couple.

Dinner certainly hasn't been overlooked, Jake has been working away to create delicious new menus for your visit, celebrating the best produce available locally for the time of year. John and his restaurant Folk have made some alterations to the dinner service times in order to adhere to social distancing measures. You can choose to sit down at either 6.15pm, or at 8.15pm. All we ask is that you organise your sit-down time at the time of booking to ensure we allow enough space for you to relax and enjoy your dinner in comfort. As always, our canine friends are very welcome at The Crown and Castle, don’t forget our dog-friendly table always gets reserved first!

For those looking forward to booking a table and joining us for an evening of fantastic food, we're ensuring all reservations are organised to observe the current 2 metre rule. To facilitate the track and trace programme we will also ask guests with and without a reservation for contact details, all data captured will be in line with our privacy policy.

As I’m sure many of you remember, the bar area is quite small, and so to avoid any overcrowding, we’re happy to bring your drink of choice to your table, your room, or out on your terrace if you’re lucky enough to have one. The ideal companion for soaking up the views of the castle as the sun sets, always better with a glass of something zingy and refreshing.

We will of course be asking you to look after yourselves a little more than usual, whilst we’re happy to bring your tea or wine choice to your table, we’ll allow you to pour it for yourself.

Danielle Ham, our Assistant Hotel Manager, is looking forward to welcoming you all with a friendly smile. You’ll notice a few small changes in reception, we’re kindly asking guests to check out a little earlier at 11.00 am simply to allow housekeeping to complete an even more thorough clean of our bedrooms before the next guest arrives.

Whilst we are happy to assist with your luggage, we will only be able to leave and collect from your door, please let John or Danielle know, and they can arrange this for you. You’ll notice all in-room reading has been removed therefore you’ll receive a more enhanced pre-arrival e-mail on completion of your reservation.

Turning to housekeeping, our Head Housekeeper, Diane Mitchell, has also been making some subtle changes. Some examples include the earlier check out as referenced above. Daily housekeeping for residents staying more than one night will only be completed by request. We are of course happy to do this for you, we just ask you to arrange this with Danielle at reception. Though we do always have an array of fresh, fluffy towels and toiletries to hand should you run low, one of Diane’s team can always oblige.

In the public areas of the hotel, you’ll notice our housekeeping Folk are always on hand to ensure all popular touch-points are regularly sanitised as well as lots of sanitiser stations around the hotel. Your safety and our high standards of cleanliness are of utmost importance to us.

I do hope this information has put your mind at ease and given you some reassurances as to the steps we are taking to make sure your return is a safe one. If you haven't already and would like to consider booking something to look forward to, you can do so with the assurance of our no strings attached flexible rate, on this rate, there's no deposit required and free cancellation up until 2 pm 48 hours prior to arrival all you need to do is enjoy the excitement of booking a trip away from home.
