The furore over TripAdvisor has not abated. I can see both sides of the coin. I use the site myself to read reports of the hotel I am thinking of staying in. I also frequently recoil from the naivety of some of them: why would you expect huge plasma screens in a country pub or 24-hour room service when you are only paying £70 a night; does the criticism of the yellow walls come from someone whose appreciation of colour stops short with beige; do they listen to Ed Sheeran and think he is good; would I rather clean my face with Harpic than spend five minutes in their company? (All rhetorical). But if the hotel has received a lot of feedback, and if most of it suggests the place is above average, then I tend to believe it.
