Our wine list has a “bunch of grapes” in the Michelin guide which signifies a ‘particularly interesting wine list’ and also won an AA Notable Wine List Award 2013-14.
We offer over 20 wines by the glass, including Perrier-Jouet champagne, fabulous Santa StefanoBrut, Ruggeri prosecco and four dessert wines. We have a good list of sherries and serve cichetti – big green & small black olives, finocchiona, warm anchovy puff pastries, heirloom radishes & vintage pecorino (or a vegetarian version) – in the bar during restaurant hours.
Wines by the bottle are carefully and individually chosen by the partners, i.e. general manager, Tim Sunderland, and Ruth and David Watson. They are all listed by grape variety, with helpful notes attached to many of them: Italy is particularly well-represented. The wine list continually evolves as we find new wines we like, so the copy here is not necessarily completely accurate.
We prefer that guests do not bring their own wine as selling wine – and food and accommodation – is our core business. (As Tim says, he doesn’t take his own spark plugs to the garage when he is having his car serviced!) We charge £25 corkage for still wines and £35 for sparkling wines: we also make a room service charge of £10 for guests drinking their own liquor in their rooms, who request ice, ice buckets, glasses, etc.
